1	INTRODUCTION

At the time of release of the braille terminal functionality for the MPO5500, current JAWS versions do not support the MPO5500.
Users of existing JAWS versions that want to use the MPO as a braille terminal must follow the following installation instructions.

Used conventions in this document:
<version>: the current installed JAWS version
<language>:	the installed JAWS language

Note that these instructions are valid for JAWS versions 4.71 or higher, older versions of JAWS have not been tested.

2	INSTRUCTIONS

2.1	UPDATING THE DRIVERS

- Install ActiveSync as delivered with this package:
  Please click on the "Install ActiveSync" hyperlink in the startup menu of this CD.
  This step can be skipped if ActiveSync version 3.7.1 or higher is already installed.

- Install the ABT drivers from this disk:
  Please click on the "Install the ALVA braille terminal drivers" hyperlink in the startup menu of this CD, and follow the instructions.

- Install JAWS with a ALVA Satellite series display with either USB or AUTO as connection type.

- close JAWS first before performing the next steps.

- Replace the alva.jlb driver in the root JAWS installation folder (usually "c:\JAWS<version>"), with alva.jlb from the "\ABT Drivers\Freedom scientific" folder of this CD.

2.2 CHANGING THE JAWS KEYMAP

At this point JAWS is capable of recognizing the display, but the MPO5500 will act as an ALVA Satellite display with limited functionality.
To profit from the full MPO functionality, JAWS has to be "told" which keys or key combination should perform a certain function.

Important: If the keyboard settings have been changed with the JAWS Keyboard Manager, these settings will be lost, unless the backup instructions are followed.

- Backup or rename you're JAWS default.jkm located in the JAWS settings folder. (Usually this is "C:\JAWS<version>\SETTINGS\<language>")
  If for any reason the old keymap is needed, default.jkm should be restored.
- Copy the default.jkm from this package (located in the "ABT Drivers\Freedom scientific\MPO" of this CD) to the JAWS settings folder and overwrite the old one if asked.
- Backup or rename you're JFW.INI file located in the root JAWS installation folder (usually "c:\JAWS<version>".
  If for any reason the old settings are needed, this file has to be restored.
- Open this file with notepad.exe for editting.
- Add the next lines under the [BrailleDisplays] entry (this text can also be found in JFW_Additions.ini):

	Braille2Name=Alva MPO
	Braille2LongName=Alva MPO Series
	Braille2Port=AUTO
	Braille2Driver=alva

- The file will look similar like this afterwards:

	[Initialization]
	SetupPath="C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{C0130074-DAAC-4ED9-82D2-A85ADA9CE632}\SETUP.EXE"

	[Synthesizers]
	Synth1Name=eloq
	Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
	Synth1Driver=eloq
	Synth2Name=NoSpeech
	Synth2LongName=No Speech
	Synth2Driver=nospeech

	[BrailleDisplays]
	Braille1Name=Alva Satellite
	Braille1LongName=Alva Satellite Series
	Braille1Port=AUTO
	Braille1Driver=alva
	Braille2Name=Alva MPO
	Braille2LongName=Alva MPO Series
	Braille2Port=AUTO
	Braille2Driver=alva

	[Options]
	Language=ENU

	AskRunJAWSFirst=0

After the JFW.INI has been changed, the MPO5500 can be chosen as a braille display.

3	RUNNING JAWS WITH THE MPO5500

To check if JAWS recognizes the MPO5500, follow the next instructions.

- Connect the MPO5500 with the USB cable, and wait for the ActiveSync connection to become available.
- Choose: menu item Options, Braille Display from the JAWS main menu.
- Select as Default braille display "ALVA MPO Braille Series". If this item is not vailable, it is likely that JFW.INI is incorrect. Please follow the instructions in chapter 2.2.
- Start the braille terminal application on the MPO5500.A message, "remark: Connected" is spoken, when JAWS connects to the MPO5500.
- The document "ALVA MPO Braille terminal Keyboard layout for Jaws.txt" shows the keyboard mapping of the MPO in combination with JAWS.
